Suzani, suzanni (Persian). Part of the Dowry, hand embroidered neddlework are used as curtains, bed spreads or wall hangings. Typically they are woven in Bukhara, Samarkand, Tashkent and the town of Shakhrisyabz (Shahr-isabz) in present day Uzbekistan. They tent to consist of silk embroidery on cotton panels that are sewn together. The designs are commonly large and small red roundels with interconnecting vines and arabesques in green and blue. The borders are wide and contain similar designs.
